Another Crash - The pain is incredible - Backup Strategy Needed

I disabled the formhistory extension and it got rid of the problem. I feel very lucky that it didn't crash the way it usually does with the messed up GUI. Thankfully disabling this extension worked. I won't turn it on again for a while. I'll have to look at things carefully.

I am going to implement a process with a program named syncback and every time I update Firefox I am going to back up my Mozilla folders.
-----------
Last night I clicked the "upgrade" button for the first time since I went through my last really significant problem. I rebooted Firefox this morning and I get a box at the bottom of my browser that says:

accesskey="&formhistory.menu.tools.accesskey;"command=Tasks:Formhistory

Major Firefox Crash - 11.10.05

I've had the same problem 3 times with Firefox. It's usually after I do an update. Then I open Firefox and it's all screwed up. The web page displayed is too large for my screen and the toolbars you can not see the icons, just the text. And they are all on one toolbar and when you click on them they do drop down but the select menu is black. What a nightmare!!! It is because of these problems that I thought it would be a good idea to start Mighty Joe's Firefox configuration. I've had good stability for the last 6 months and I thought I had resolved the problems but then this happened. So I've been working to learn from it. I'm going to attach an image of a screen shot that shows my file manager focused on extensions and I've gone through and matched names to all the numbers (I don't know why Mozilla doesn't just put the names on the extensions).

Important information is where your custom Mozilla files are on your CPU. This is the path and for some reason it is hidden unless you input the path manually (text in red are custom so put your information in there):

C:\Documents and Settings\your machine's name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\custom profile name\extensions

----
I tried to post the image but it's too large. Hopefully it will never happen again but if it does I'll figure out a way to post the information. Even if I have to type it in manually. If you are trying to recover from a similar problem please post a comment and I'll try to get the information to you personally.

Good news VS Bad news -
The good news is that you can get up and running pretty quickly. I worked to try to save all my information and so far the only thing I've been able to pin down is the bookmarks. To get up and running copy your files from the directory mentioned above to somewhere else on your machine. Then uninstall Firefox and reinstall. Then go to my page and download a bunch of extensions, I must say, all humility aside, that my page makes it very easy to get your extensions back. It saves you a bunch of time... just open each link in a different tab, install each item... and you are all set. I started working to find the data in sted, quicknote, farewatcher, informenter... and I've had no luck so I've just let that go and am getting on with life. I know it is somewhere but, as it turns out, I really don't need it. What I did need was my bookmarks. Your bookmark file is an html file stored in the directory listed above. Just go there, copy that file from your old profile, and paste it into your new profile and you should be good to go. Good luck... and please let me know if you have this problem. I think it would be a good idea to let Mozilla know how many of us there are out there.

Sincerely,
Mighty Joe

Sted Sidebar - It's Still There But Information Is Gone

I was working with Sted Sidebar and saving my templates and the frame, where Sted Sidebar is displayed, started shaking vigorously. The next time I opened it, the information pane was blank. I think the information is still there because I know it saves it to a file. I will be investigating this and post the results in my "comments" section.

Reinstalled and Resolved

I have reinstalled all the extensions mentioned in the previous post and I have now resolved all the issues. I don't understand what went wrong. I only have a few scripts installed and running currently and I will slowly add scripts to my configuration and report any problems I have. Happy face :)

Grease Monkey Scripts Can Do MoreThan You Know

I have a lot of user scripts installed on my machine, maybe too many. I don't usually have them all engaged at the same time. A while back I had switched some of them off for one reason or another but I found myself needing to log into yahoo more often. So I opened "manage user scripts" and activated quite a few of them. The next time I opened my browser there were several functions from Mozilla extensions that didn't show up any longer. These are the ones I know about.

1. All in one gestures was completely disabled
2. Greasemonkey completely disabled - monkey didn't show in status toolbar and under tools menu there was no manage or install user scripts listed
3. noscript no longer worked and there was no icon in my status toolbar.
4. Autocopy no longer worked and the icon was no longer on my status bar.

These are three of my most valued extensions and I had to fix it. So I switched opened my "manage user scripts" from my "extensions" window and my greasemonkey and no script icons returned to my statusbar and are now working. Also the "manage user scripts" option returned under my tools menu. However, I still have not fixed my "all in one gesture" extension. So I'm going to work on that now. What a headache! Actually, I've had worse... At least I was able to get into my browser and work with things. I can always fix it if I can work with a normally functioning browser. I've had problems where I can't get to the browser and then it's tougher.

This is a list of my user scripts. I do not recommend anyone to use all the things on this list. I never run everything at the same time. I'm trying to figure out which scripts are good so I can recommend them to mighty joe firefox fans... I've also included a list of my extensions from infolister.
